Artificial Intelligence

Our Philosophy on AI

Now we've been famous for saying we don't use artificial intelligence (or any intelligence) when crafting our newsletter content. And this is mostly a joke, although we do like to write things out ourselves. BUT, we've been asked to make a stance on AI, plant a pole in the sand.

Here are some videos from Darin Lynch, Founder and CEO, around AI.

AI (like EVERY tool), needs to provide actual value. We've adopted the calculator because it helps us do math faster. We'll adopt other tools, like AI, if they help our merchants build and grow ecommerce channels. We see a few value adds in some AI.

  • Speed - Allow merchants to get products up and running faster. Sell things quicker.
  • Scale - Allow merchants to sell more products. Get more in the hands of more customers.
  • Experience - Provide a better customer flow, search, product understanding, customer experience working with a merchant.
  • Natural Language Search - Google reshaped how we search, AI is poised to reshaped it again.
  • Data Analysis - AI tools are great for crunching numbers, asking text based questions of data, and finding trends. But like your calculator, you need to understand how to do this work without AI so you know if the results sound a bit too good to be true.

Now, we hear you say, 'Titans, you blindly trust our AI overlords? What happens when they rise up in 2045?'. Nope, we always say please and thank you, we'll be spared in the Tech Wars. Our items to watch closely when implementing AI tools.

  • Do they ACTUALLY add value? Some tools are integrated rough and ready and offer little to no actual value. Sorry.
  • We NEVER see AI as a replacement for a job. Responsibilities might shift, mundane tasks might be eliminated, but you won't be replaced by AI, you'll be replaced by someone who uses AI successfully.
  • Privacy. Are you sharing critical, private, competitive information with an LLM that's going to share it on? You might not, is every employee at your company? Think carefully.

Think of AI as a hammer. A really chatty hammer. If you use it well, it can hang the Mona Lisa. If you use it wrong, it's a hole in the wall you have to fix. Did we write this whole article with AI? You'll never know. No come on, some poor Titan typed this out by hand like we were still in the 1900s.
